THINGS TO CONCIDER WHEN DESIGNING YOUR CALENDAR CSU Calendear Example
Conceptualizing Your Theme- Every
winning communication material requires a rationale, concept or theme
behind it. Same goes for calendar designing. You need to think about
certain themes or concepts for the calendar. This theme may be in
accordance with your general corporate theme or any other interesting
concept that may appeal the target audience of the calendar. An Example in our Cleveland Calendar would be using the City itself as
the theme, including tag lines, major events, and great pictures.
Decide Your Message- The
concept of theme, mentioned above, needs to be accompanied or
strengthened with the help of a message. Once the theme is decided,
brainstorm the overall message you want to communicate in your calendar
about your product, service, industry or cause.
For example, in the Cleveland Calendar our message was "The City Is Our
Campus". We featured beautiful images of the City and over 150 major
events taking place that year to co-inside with that message. The only
images that we had in of Cleveland State itself was in the 2-page spread in the back.
Images with Quality- When designing a calendar, images are of second-most important aspect to be considered (the first most important aspect is the theme). After the concept and message of the calendar is decided, you start searching the right images that blend with the theme and the message. It is quite a hectic activity to go step by step and look for best suited images for the messages, but you will reap the rewards at the end. Make sure that there are enough design, photography or illustration resources for every page and of high-quality suitable for printing.
Make Best Use of the Page Space- A calendar is not just a page with dates and images, it is more of an opportunity to spread your message throughout the year. The message you want to convey should be proper and perfect. There are times when you'll find very little space for everything you want to put in a calendar and other times, it happens that you'll get a large page space to display all the elements of the calendar. An introductory page at the beginning or end of the calendar
describing the business, its attributes and achievements takes the calendar real estate and make great use of it.
The Date Display- A calendar has its most important part in the date section (basically, that’s what it is for). The pattern and designing of date display should be legible, pleasant and attractive. Although it depends a lot on the size of the calendar, however, you should try to keep the target market in mind and make it as comfortable as possible. Here again, you can make use of the dates to promote your company or business through the dates. For example, inform the viewers of your company’s scheduled events or promotions in your calendar dates. You can also customize the dates so they specify when events or sales will take place.
Be Keen About the Production Details- After designing the calendar, the most crucial part of the process is the printing and production of the material. STWA will work with you on deciding what will work best with your calendar’s theme or message, and implement those decisions into the high quality final product. You and your customers will come to not only enjoy and appreciate your hard work, but be proud to hang your message throughout the year for many to see.
